Nut-Free Policy

Our Commitment

We Make Footballers aims to maintain a nut-free environment, although we recognize this cannot be fully guaranteed. This policy sets out all measures taken to reduce the risk to children and adults who may suffer a severe allergic reaction if exposed to nuts.

We will make this policy available to all new customers so that parents and guardians are aware that nut products are not permitted at any We Make Footballers session, including snacks, lunch boxes, birthday treats, or seasonal items.

What is Anaphylaxis?

Anaphylaxis is a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. It occurs when the body's immune system overreacts to an allergen such as nuts. The reaction typically begins within minutes of contact, though it can occasionally occur hours later. Anaphylaxis is a medical emergency and must be treated immediately.

Symptoms of Anaphylaxis

Symptoms usually appear between 3 and 60 minutes after contact with an allergen and may include:

Reactions vary in severity. In the most serious cases, anaphylaxis can be fatal if not treated immediately.

What to Do in an Emergency

Anaphylaxis must always be treated as a medical emergency. If a reaction occurs:

Responsibilities of Coaching Staff

All coaching staff and volunteers must read and follow this policy. Staff must not bring or consume nut products within any We Make Footballers environment. Good hand-washing practice must be followed at all times, particularly before and after handling food.

Special care must be taken around holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas when candy and treats are more common. If staff distribute any food items, all packaging must be checked for the following warnings — and if any are present, the product must not be used:

Responsibilities of Parents and Guardians

Parents and guardians must:

Any lunch box items containing nuts or nut products will be removed by staff and replaced with a safe alternative snack.

Where an individual healthcare plan has been provided for a child with allergies, we will discuss this with the parent or guardian, and any medication will be stored and administered in accordance with the guidance given. Emergency reference cards are kept near our First Aid kit, containing allergy information and emergency contact details for each affected child.

Responsibilities of Children

Children are regularly reminded to wash their hands before and after eating to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Children are also supervised to minimize food sharing with others.

If a child with a nut allergy believes they may have come into contact with or consumed nuts, they must inform a staff member immediately.
